The Mandela Effect

Have you ever seen something and are certain it is different, that it has changed somehow? Like sitting down with your kids to watch the Berenstain Bears, but remembering that when you were a kid, it was Berenstein Bears? That, my friend, is what we call The Mandela Effect.

The Mandela effect is an observed phenomenon in which a large number of people “misremembers” or has a “false memory” of an event that did not actually occur. The term was coined by Fiona Broome, a paranormal researcher. In 2010 Fiona attended a conference, and while there, she found that a large number of people shared her memory that Nelson Mandela had died in prison during the 1980’s. However, in reality, Nelson Mandela, the former president of South Africa, was released from prison in 2009, and was even alive while this conference was taking place.

How could such a large number of people misremember the same thing? According to quantum theory enthusiasts, this can mean only one thing – parallel universes do exist.

Often a theme in science fiction, The multiverse is a concept in quantum mechanics and a facet of that astronomical theory is the parallel universe, where a universe coexists with our own, having certain similarities to the known world, but is different.

With little evidence to support the theory of the multiverse, or parallel universe, there is also little to argue against it. For example, we don’t know how big space really is; for all we know is that it goes on and on forever. That presents the possibility of many universes existing, and then the theory that universes would start repeating themselves as the particles can only be put together in so many ways. There is also the theory of the “Daughter universe,” whereby following the laws of probability, it suggests that for every outcome that could come from one of your decisions, there would be a wide range of universes, wherein each saw one outcome to be. With this theory in mind, it is possible that Nelson Mandela did die in prison, but another universe came to be when he fought for his life and ultimately lived.

So, the question is, are we somehow in a parallel universe? Did we wake up one day in a world where 1 little thing has changed, but all else remained the same?

Here are some examples of The Mandela Effect. Take a look and let us know how you remember them.
