Secure, Contain, Protect. That is the mission of The SCP Foundation.
SCP-173 is an object constructed from concrete and rebar with traces of Krylon brand spray paint. SCP-173 is to be kept in a locked container at all times. It has proven animate and extremely hostile, moving only when outside of any organism’s line of sight. It has been reported to move forward, covering short distances with the sound of grinding stone in the amount of time it takes for a human to blink. The object advances toward its target until it is in range, then snapping its victims neck at the base of the skull, or kills via strangulation. For these reasons, protocol has been put in place for the safety of personnel having to enter SCP-173’s container.
The floor of the container is streaked with a reddish brown substance, believed to be a combination of feces and blood. The origin of these materials is unknown, and the enclosure must be cleaned on a bi-weekly basis. When personnel must enter the object’s container, no fewer than 3 may enter at any time, and the door is to be relocked behind them. At all times, two persons must maintain direct eye contact with SCP-173, until all personnel have vacated and relocked the container. This means the personnel assigned to enter the container are instructed to alert one another before blinking.
Personnel report sounds of scraping stone originating from within the container when no one is present inside. They believe this to be normal behavior, and any change is to be reported to the acting HMCL supervisor on duty immediately.
SCP-173 is considered to be incredibly durable, able to hold its own in a fight against SCP-682 (a massive reptilian beast with almost unlimited regenerative powers that is widely considered the most adaptive and durable SCP the Foundation contains. The object has inspired fear in the creature from that day forward.)
SCP-173 has been placed in the Euclid-class. This class is reserved for anomalies that require more resources to contain completely or where containment isn’t always reliable. Usually this is because the SCP is insufficiently understood or inherently unpredictable. Euclid is the Object Class with the greatest scope, and it’s usually a safe bet that an SCP will be this class if it doesn’t easily fall into any of the other standard Object Classes.
